Aviva Avidan began singing as a child in Jerusalem and became a soloist of the Southern Command army band
Aviva Avidan was born in Jerusalem in 1953. At 11 she sang in the Pinat HaYeled children's choir on Kol Israel, and in 1972 she became a soloist of the Southern Command army band, singing the solo in Elad Yarad El HaYarden. In the mid-1970s she sang backing vocals in the Piamenta band, and at Eurovision 1982 she was in Avi Toledano's backing group for Hora, which came second.
In the mid-1980s she went back to singing solo, working with the songwriter Yoni Roeh, who wrote or composed many of her hits. Her first album, Yihye Beseder (1991), had Ish Yakar Sheli, Pri Ganech and the title song, and Pilpel (1993) brought Kotel HaMizrach, her duet with Daklon and the album's biggest hit. She has made eight studio albums, the last in 2010.
She sings in a style that joins East and West, and performs across Israel and abroad with a five-piece band, in a show that runs from her army band songs through her own hits to medleys of Uzi Hitman and Jo Amar. In 2021 she also acted, in the TV series HaYoreshet and the film Leshachrer et Shuli.
