Ilanit went from a youth talent contest in 1962 to singing Israel's first Eurovision song in 1973
Ilanit was born Hanna Dresner in Tel Aviv in 1947. In 1962 she won first place in a youth talent contest, and in the 1960s she rose to fame in the duo Ilan & Ilanit with the singer Shlomo Zach, whose hits included Lekol Adam Kochav and Boi Senyorina.
Her first solo song, Kvar Acharei Chatzot, came out in 1968, and from 1971 to 1977 she was named singer of the year seven times in a row in Kol Israel's annual Hebrew chart, a record that still stands. In 1973 she sang Ey Sham at Israel's first Eurovision Song Contest and finished fourth, and in 1977 she returned with Ahava Hi Shir Lishnayim.
She has recorded more than 600 songs and more than 30 albums. Her long work with the songwriters Ehud Manor and Nurit Hirsh gave her hits such as BaShana HaBa'a and Lalechet Shevi Acharayich, and Rachel Shapira's Shir Shel Yom Chulin became one of her biggest songs. In 2019 she sang Ey Sham at the opening of the Eurovision final in Tel Aviv, and in August 2025 she played a seven-piano show with Gil Shohat in Caesarea.
