Static got his name from a friend who said he was as surprising as static electricity
Static is the stage name of Liraz Russo, born on 8 December 1990, who grew up in Haifa. He got the name from a childhood friend, Gal Friedman, who said he was as prickly and surprising as static electricity. He started making music at 15, practised freestyle rap and first performed with the Haifa rap group Unique T, then worked with the producer and rapper Mor Segev and with rappers such as Omri Segal and Ron Nesher.
His first notable success was the club hit Loco Vine with Alon De Loco, and in 2015 Ba La Lirkod, with DJ Gal Malka, reached No. 4 on Galgalatz. That year Dubigal, with Ron Nesher, Jordi and Ben El Tavori, led to the duo Static & Ben El, whose songs Kvish HaChof, Silsulim, Zahav and Tudo Bom each reached No. 1 on the Media Forest chart. In 2018 the duo signed with Capitol Records, and they later recorded with J Balvin, Pitbull and the Black Eyed Peas.
In August 2022 Static announced the end of the duo and went solo. His first solo album, Liraz, came out in February 2023, and its title song reached No. 1 on Galgalatz; the second, Leharim, followed in April 2024, and Ima and Machshefa (with Adi Bity) both reached No. 1 on the Media Forest chart. In January 2025 he played a large solo show at Expo Tel Aviv, in October 2025 he released the mini-album Ka'akuim, and in 2026 he released Haya Li Chalom, a duet with Amir Benayoun.
