Yaakov Shwekey grew up between Jerusalem, Mexico City and the United States before his first album in 2001

Yaakov Shwekey was born in Jerusalem in 1977 and grew up in Jerusalem, Mexico City and the United States, where he sang for a short time with the Miami Boys Choir. He began his solo career in 2001 with Shomati, produced by Yochi Briskman, and its song Racheim, composed by Pinky Weber, became a hit.

In the summer of 2008 he played Caesarea and sang Vehi She'amda with its composer, Yonatan Razel; the song, released on the concert's DVD, became a major hit. Libi BaMizrach (2010) brought strong Mizrahi influences into his music, and from then on he has sung in many styles; in 2014 he sang the title song of Kolot with Shlomi Shabat.

Musica (2018), his tenth solo studio album, went platinum within three months, and Elevate (2022) gathered more than 70 songs into eight medleys with other singers and bands. He has shared the stage with Omer Adam, Hanan Ben Ari, Ishay Ribo and Kobi Peretz.
