Yali Sobol became known as the voice of Monika Sex in 1995 and has since made his own albums and novels

Yali Sobol was born in Haifa in 1972. He first became known as the singer of Monika Sex, whose 1995 debut, Ptza'im U'Neshikot, went gold with hits like Maka Afora and Kol HaChevre; he wrote and composed most of its songs. After the band broke up at the end of 1996 he lived for a year in London, and in 1998 he came back to Israel.

His first solo album, Sus (1999), brought the radio hits Lo Yachol Bli Ze, Gavoha and Hoda'ot, a duet with Melanie Peres. Monika Sex got back together in 2000 and has released several more albums since, the latest Layla Chadash (2019). He has also written songs for Arik Einstein, Yehudit Ravitz and Izhar Ashdot, and in 2008 he made the album Eldorado with Rea Mochiach.

He is also a novelist, with three books from Bein Dirot (2004) to Etzba'ot Shel Pianist (2012). His third solo album, Ritzot Arukot (2017), produced by Assaf Amdursky, was paid for by fans who bought it in advance in a crowdfunding campaign, and his fourth, Mayim Al Sela, recorded with the band playing live in the studio, came out in January 2025.
