Liraz Charhi came to singing in Persian after more than a decade as an Israeli film and television actress
Liraz Charhi was born in Ramla in 1978 to a family from Iran, and grew up in Ramat HaSharon and Herzliya. She sang in the Li-Ron choir in Herzliya and studied theatre in high school, and after serving in the Education Corps troupe she studied at the Beit Zvi acting school, graduating in 2001.
Her film breakthrough came in 2004 with Avi Nesher's Turn Left at the End of the World, which earned her an Ophir Award nomination; she went on to Fair Game (2010) and A Late Quartet (2012), and in 2020 played the Mossad agent Yael Kadosh in Tehran. As a singer she released Liraz Charhi (2005) and Rak Lecha Mutar (2012), produced by Yoni Poliker.
In 2016 she went back to the Iranian songs of the 1960s and 1970s she grew up on at home, and began singing in Persian as Liraz. Naz (2018) was followed by Zan (2020), produced by Uri Brauner Kinrot, Roya (2022), recorded in Istanbul, and the EP Enerjy (2024); in 2025 she wrote songs for the film Reading Lolita in Tehran.
