A dairy bar-restaurant by the Ashdod promenade, opened in 2017 by childhood friends from the city, with fish, pasta and vegetable dishes made for sharing

Alma is a bar-restaurant on Yona HaNavi Street, beside the Ashdod promenade and a few steps from the beach and the Pirates Park, which calls itself a local food bar. It opened in February 2017, by its owners' account to Rest's magazine, founded by childhood friends who grew up in Ashdod, worked in Tel Aviv restaurants and came home at 25. mako named them in March 2025 as Geva Maimon, who runs the restaurant, and the chefs Aviram Azulai and Eyal Dayan; ynet counted Mor Dayan among the partners in 2019, the year they also opened Ma, an Asian restaurant on Martin Buber Street. For years Alma was not kosher and opened on Shabbat; in October 2024 Azulai told Ashdodi that after a long process it had received a kashrut certificate from the rabbinate, and it now closes from Friday afternoon until an hour after Shabbat ends. Its kitchen is dairy: fish, pasta, vegetables and cheeses, with no meat, in medium-sized dishes for sharing that change with the seasons, from handmade bread with Har Bracha tahini and ikra to fish cigars, an Israeli sea kebab, an Israeli paella, fish shawarma and a whole sea bass from the taboon; ynet wrote in 2023 that the baked sweet potato with sour cream had been on the menu since the day it opened. Lunch deals run until 17:00, a happy hour takes 30 per cent off the menu from 17:30 to 19:00, and it hosts private events of up to 100 guests, at the restaurant or at a home or office. ynet's lists of 2024 described a large outdoor seating area with big round tables that suits families, where in the evening the lights dim and it turns into a lively pub, and a big yard lit with strings of lights beside an open kitchen; mako put it on its list of Ashdod's best restaurants in April 2025.

Sources disagree on these hours

Its website gives, on every page, Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to 23:30, Friday from 12:00 until an hour before Shabbat begins, and Saturday night from an hour after Shabbat ends until 00:30. Its Friday closing therefore moves with the season: the 17:00 shown here is its Google listing's, as Wanderlog and the copy in its Tabit booking record, dated 27 September 2026, give it; that listing closes at 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday and gives Saturday night as 20:00 to 23:45. Its Tabit booking page says it is open from 12:00 until the last customers from Sunday to Thursday and takes Saturday-night bookings by phone only. mako printed Sunday to Thursday 12:00 to 22:00 in March 2025 and 12:00 to 23:00, with Friday 12:00 to 16:00, in April 2025. Two older pages on its website, from February 2026, still describe it as open on Shabbat with a weekend brunch; the hours on every page of the site and on its booking page close it from Friday afternoon until Saturday night.
