Yan Harosh's Neapolitan pizzeria in the small shopping centre of Ashdod's old Electric Company estate, open in the evenings, where every pizza comes with a pair of scissors

Farino is the Neapolitan pizzeria that Yan Harosh, born in Ashdod, opened in January 2021 in the small one-storey shopping centre of the Israel Electric Corporation's old housing estate in Rova Alef, a centre that served the company's workers, who moved into the estate at the end of the 1950s and the start of the 1960s. Its name joins the Italian words for oven and flour. Harosh worked in kitchens from the age of 16, managed bars and cafés and worked for illy as a coffee trainer, which took him to Trieste to study coffee, and in Italy he fell for Neapolitan pizza. During the pandemic he baked pizzas at home and sold them once a week, and when every batch sold out he looked for a place that felt like a Neapolitan piazza. Globes reported that Eden Rokatel, who worked there, became his partner in 2024. The sourdough rises for days and bakes at about 450 degrees, and each pizza comes with scissors to cut it, as in Naples. The menu is short: in December 2025 Walla counted two salads, a bruschetta or two, eight pizzas, two desserts and three drinks. The pizzas run from a classic Margherita to ones with stracciatella made on the spot, with roasted corn, with leeks, or with chard and feta cream, and the Caesar salad comes on a pizza tray. It opens only in the evening, Globes wrote, because the day goes to making the dough, the sauces, the cheeses and the desserts. Diners order at the counter and eat in the courtyard, where tables, chairs and benches fill the space between the shops; ynet wrote in February 2026 that it has no seats of its own and people eat standing from the box, while Israel Hayom wrote in February 2025 that seats had been added inside. Next door Harosh opened PAT, a café and deli for the mornings, in August 2023, and the Tiramisuteria, for tiramisu and gelato, in February 2025, so the courtyard is busy from morning to night. mako called Farino one of the best Neapolitan pizzerias in Israel, readers of the food magazine Magazin HaOchel chose it as the best pizza in Israel in 2024, Globes called it the most Italian pizza in the country in March 2025, and Walla's critic Yaniv Granot put it sixth among the best restaurants of December 2025. Harosh is also a DJ. Some reports give its address as HaEshel 9 and others as HaEshel 11, and the three businesses share one phone number.
