3 Eilot Street, Eilat

A meat, fish and seafood restaurant that Eddie Hetz opened in Eilat in 1979, now run by his son Ashley a few steps from where it started

Eddie's Hideaway has been cooking in Eilat since 1979. By its own account, Eddie Hetz, born in New York in 1940, came to Jerusalem in the early 1970s, met Batya there and opened a hamburger restaurant with her; the two moved south to Eilat and opened in a small place in a residential neighbourhood, far from the promenade and the hotels, believing that the food would make the place. It grew into a restaurant of steaks, fish and seafood with French and Italian dishes, and Eddie's son Ashley now runs it as chef and owner. After a fire in the summer of 2016 it moved to HaMasger Street in the industrial zone early in 2017, and in 2025 it came back to Neighbourhood Aleph, into the old commercial centre at 3 Eilot Street where Little Brazil used to be, about 20 metres from where it began. ynet reported in December 2025 that the new restaurant is about half the size of the last one and quoted Ashley as wanting to return to the days of Eddie's small, much-loved bistro; he hung a photograph of his parents over the bar, and the menu keeps flagship dishes from his father's time. mako's guide of May 2026 lists it under fine-casual dining, with white tablecloths, says a new partner, Naor Safra, runs the management while Ashley cooks, calls it one of the better restaurants in Eilat, and names the onion soup, the gnocchi in lemon butter and basil, the shrimp in butter, garlic and wine, the liver pâté with drunken pears and the fillet baked with brown sugar and Dijon mustard. It is not kosher, opens on Saturday and hosts private events, from birthdays to marriage proposals.
