Lior Raphael and Inbar Shapira's burger restaurant at the Herods Palace hotel on Eilat's North Beach, their chef restaurant until 2020

Hamburger at Whale is the burger restaurant of Lior Raphael, a chef, and Inbar Shapira, a pastry chef, a couple born in Eilat who ran Hamasger 5 in the town's industrial zone from 2012 to January 2015. In 2015 they opened Whale (לוויתן), a chef restaurant with 85 seats in a building at the eastern end of the Herods promenade on the North Beach, with big windows onto the lagoon (its own site gives the year as 2016); Walla's critic Avi Efrati wrote in 2016 that it was a restaurant you would be glad to eat at in Tel Aviv too. Covid shut it for two and a half months, and at the start of June 2020 the couple reopened it as a burger restaurant under its present name, keeping two dishes from the old menu, the La Big Mess burger and the shrimp burger. Its 200 g patties are made daily in its own butchery from fresh meat and cooked medium-well, in buns its own bakers make, under the house Big Mess sauce of mayonnaise, cornichons, capers, pickled onion and a secret spice mix. In 2024 guests ordered at self-service machines and took a table inside or outside, with a view of the sea; in May 2026 mako wrote that the self-service burger bar had become a burger restaurant, with seats at the bar and at tables, and its booking page offers the bar, inside and outside. mako called its Lo Kshera, with smoked lamb and double cheddar in a milk bun baked on site, a burger with no equal in the country, and Walla's David Rosenthal wrote in 2022 that he had found a burger worth dying for there. Its website recommends booking ahead.

Sources disagree on these hours

Its website says it is open every day from 13:00 to 22:00, and its booking schedule on Tabit, last changed on 2 December 2024, and the Hebrew page of the town's tourism site say the same; the footer of the same web page gives every day 13:00 to 16:00 and 17:30 to 20:00. Its Google listing, as Wanderlog and Restaurant Guru copy it, gives 12:00 to 23:00 every day. Delivery and takeaway orders are taken from 12:00. Older listings on d.co.il and the tourism site's English page still give the evening hours of the chef restaurant it replaced.
