A Neapolitan sourdough pizzeria by Haifa's port, with a wood-fired oven from Naples, fried Southern Italian starters and cheeses from small Israeli dairies

NeoPolitan is a Neapolitan pizzeria on HaNamal Street, the street along the port in Haifa's lower city. Oren Avni, born in Haifa, is its pizzaiolo and owner. By his own account in the press he is self-taught: he ate his first Neapolitan pizza in Naples at ten, farmed in the Galilee, and studied pizza for years on trips to Naples before opening here in February 2020, just before the first lockdown, with a wood-fired oven by the Neapolitan maker Stefano Ferrara and, Globes wrote, 24 seats. Late in 2022 it grew, in the words of ynet's critic, into a full restaurant; Portfolio magazine later described how it took over the storeroom next door and tripled its space, lengthening the bar and adding a fryer station, a dough room and a gallery floor with a private room for groups, and in 2023 Globes put it at about 300 diners an evening. The dough is raised with natural sourdough from Italian flours, and the personal-size pizzas come whole, with knife and fork or scissors, and with local olive oils for dipping the crusts. Its website says the menu changes almost daily with the season, around fried starters after the street food of southern Italy, such as frittatine of fried pasta, risotto supplì and cones of fried pizza dough, and sourdough pizzas that run from a margherita and a marinara without cheese to seasonal combinations. The 50 Top Pizza guide notes that its owner is vegetarian and there are no meat pizzas. The cheeses come from HaMachleva HaKtana, a small dairy at Givat Haim that makes its mozzarella and scamorza, the greens from a farm in the Gilboa, the olive oils from Galilee presses and Kibbutz Magal, the flour from the Petra mill in northern Italy, and some of the wine from Vortman, an organic Haifa winery. Guests sit at the bar, at low or high tables inside, some of them shared, or outside in front, and the room is air-conditioned against the heat of the oven. It serves dinner from 18:00 every day but Friday, lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, and only lunch on Friday; its booking page offers a happy hour from Sunday to Wednesday. In March 2025 the 50 Top Pizza guide placed it 25th among the best pizzerias in Asia-Pacific and named it the new entry of the year, which Haaretz called the highest place an Israeli pizzeria had reached in the guide. mako's Haifa list of December 2024 called it one of the best Neapolitan pizzerias in the country, Calcalist's critic wrote in November 2024 that it was worth an hour and a half in traffic, and Time Out Israel put it on its Haifa list of 2025. It is not kosher. The Carmelit's lower-city station is about 200 metres away, and Haifa Center HaShmona railway station about 450 metres.

Sources disagree on these hours

These are the hours on its website, in Hebrew and in English: dinner from 18:00 to 23:00 every day but Friday, lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday and Wednesday as well, and on Friday lunch only. Wolt's delivery hours follow the same days. Its Google listing, as Wanderlog and its booking page copy it, closes at 22:30 except on Thursday, ends lunch at 15:30 on Tuesday and Wednesday, and adds lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 on Thursday; its booking page also takes Thursday lunch bookings and says it now opens for lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Israel Hayom in November 2024 gave 18:00 to 22:30 from Saturday to Thursday and 12:00 to 16:00 on Friday, and d.co.il gives office hours that fit no other source.
