Chef Alaa Musa's small fish and seafood street-food place on the main road of Haifa's lower city, serving arayes, crispy fish and Josper-grilled skewers in a pita or on a plate

Salt is the fish street-food place that chef Alaa Musa and his partner Ahmad Assadi opened in December 2025 at 33 Derekh HaAtzmaut, the main road through Haifa's lower city, in the premises of Knafeh De-Lux, the dessert café the two opened in 2020. It is Musa's third place in the lower city, after LUX (2018) and Crudo (2022) on HaNamal Street, one street away. Musa, from Akko, started at 15 at Uri Buri there, trained at the Dan Gourmet school in Haifa, was sous-chef at Carmela BaNachala in Tel Aviv and spent four years in Michelin-starred kitchens in Sweden. Walla wrote that the idea took shape in the first days of the war, and Musa told Haaretz that the knafeh trend was over. The menu is fish and seafood only, with no meat: crispy fish, fish kebab and fish arayes in a pita or on a plate with a side, skewers of white fish and shrimp, crispy anchovies and calamari, a salmon bowl, lemony freekeh and fries with lemon zest, and Layali Beirut, a semolina cream with rose water, for dessert. Most dishes pass through the Josper, a charcoal oven-grill. The room is small, with about 15 seats: a counter with the cooks behind it, a few small tables inside and more outside on the pavement, open to the street. mako described its blue, sea-themed design and plates with a blue rim like its logo, and Walla's critic wrote that the branding recalls Greece. Dips, starters and pickles wait on the counter for guests to help themselves. It also sells takeaway, ordered by phone, and delivers through Wolt. Walla's EAT list put it third among Israel's best restaurants in February 2026, mako's guide to the country's best street food in April 2026 called it the most talked-about street eatery in Haifa and singled out the fish arayes, the crispy fish and the fish kebab, and Israel Hayom's round-up of Haifa in September 2026 put it first. It opens every day, Friday and Saturday included, from 11:30, and it is not kosher. The Carmelit's lower-city station is about 150 metres away, and Haifa Center HaShmona railway station about 460 metres.

Sources disagree on these hours

Israel Hayom's round-up of Haifa, published on 25 September 2026, gives it open all week from 11:30 to 22:30, which is also when Wolt takes orders from it, except on Thursday and Friday, when Wolt takes them until 23:00. When it opened in December 2025, Kolbo, Israel Hayom and mako gave 11:30 to 23:00 every day, as mako did again in April 2026, and foodis gave 11:30 to 23:30 in January 2026. Its Google listing, in Wanderlog's copy, closes at 23:30, and at 22:30 on Thursday. d.co.il gives daytime hours that are not a restaurant's. No source mentions a break between lunch and dinner.
