19 Aza Street, Rehavia, Jerusalem

A kosher Japanese restaurant on Aza Street in Rehavia, from the owners of Station 9, with sushi and hand rolls, skewers grilled over charcoal, ramen, and fish and meat aged in its own kitchen

Azia 19 opened in May 2024 at 19 Aza Street in Rehavia, in a remodelled apartment in a preserved building, and its name plays on the address and on Asia. It belongs to the group behind Station 9, the kosher pan-Asian restaurant at the First Station: ynet names the veteran restaurateurs Ram and Bar Yadid and Shlomi and Eyal Turgeman as its owners, and Haaretz and mako name Bar Yadid, a second-generation Jerusalem restaurateur, as the man behind it. He told Haaretz that Japan is only an inspiration, and in 2025 the owners told ynet that the kitchen team as a whole is the chef. The menu runs from hand rolls, sashimi and sushi rolls to kushiyaki skewers grilled over charcoal, ramen and rice bowls, sandwiches in Japanese shokupan bread and burgers, and a robata section with a whole butterflied sea bass and a prime rib dry-aged for 60 days and sold by weight. mako's 2026 list of Israel's 50 best kosher restaurants describes the work behind it: long fermentations, koji and garums, black garlic made on the premises, fish and meat dry-aged in dedicated fridges, and veal tongue cooked sous-vide for three days before it goes on the charcoal. A giant fish lamp of paper and wood hangs from the ceiling over a black stone floor and a large bar, and there are tables outside; in 2024 its wine list was all Israeli. From noon to 17:00 the whole menu is 20% off. It is kosher and meat, closed on Friday, and opens on Saturday night at 20:30; ynet wrote in 2025 that at weekends it fills with diners from all over the country. Time Out put it third in its 2026 list of 31 places to eat well in Jerusalem.
