76 Yosef Bussel Street, Ne'ot Ganim, Netanya

A meat pita stand in a quiet Netanya neighbourhood, open at lunchtime from Sunday to Thursday, where the owner builds every pita himself around short rib cooked for 17 hours

Zorba is a meat pita stand, a "meat pita bar" as its English site calls it, in Ne'ot Ganim in the east of Netanya, a residential neighbourhood away from the market and the city centre. Assaf Vainshtein opened it in May 2020, at the start of the pandemic, in the neighbourhood where he grew up; he told Israel Hayom in November 2025 that it began as a small business whose menu grew with its customers, and that he works with Omer, his right hand, and his wife Julie. Its flagship is short rib cooked for 17 hours, seared again on the plancha and packed into a pita baked for each order, with tahini, amba, chimichurri, zhug, garlic confit and grilled onion, tomato and pepper. Vainshtein builds every pita himself, in front of the customer, which is why, as Asif's guide and Israel Hayom both wrote in 2025, there is usually a queue at the entrance. Besides the short rib there are pitas of Iraqi kebab, chicken thigh steak and chicken liver, a vegetarian chaltha (a zucchini fritter that Asif's critic Amit Aaronsohn calls a spicy, crisp Tunisian vegetable fritter), small plates of deconstructed sabich, merguez and, from Sukkot to Passover, ful masri, and to drink its sponga, a fruit soda, and draft beer. You order at the till past the open kitchen, take a pager, and eat at simple wooden tables and benches outside (mako, 2024), at the edge of a car park. It opens only at lunchtime, Sunday to Thursday. Haaretz's Eitan Leshem headlined his visit in 2022 "The rumours told of a great pita in Netanya. The queue made clear they were right"; mako's Rita Goldstein called its short rib pita in 2024 one of the best meat pitas in the country, if not the best; mako's 2026 list of Israel's best street food said it would probably make the country's top five street dishes; and Maariv's Hoshen Harel found it full at lunchtime in September 2025, with friends, business owners from nearby and families from the neighbourhood talking in Hebrew, French and English. i24NEWS's Niv Gilboa also visited it for a television piece.

Sources disagree on these hours

Its website gives Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 16:00, and closed on Friday, Saturday and festivals, and says it serves until the day's food runs out; its Google listing, as the map on its website shows it, gives the same hours. The press printed a later close: 16:30 in Asif's guide (May 2025), Israel Hayom (May 2025) and Maariv (September 2025), 12:30 to 16:30 in mako's list of April 2026, and 12:00 to 17:00 in mako's review of February 2024.
