Berry Sakharof was in a band at 16 and became the prince of Israeli rock

Berry Sakharof was born in İzmir, Turkey, in 1957 and came to Israel with his parents at three. At 16 he was already playing in the band Cosmic Dream, and after the army he went to Europe, where he co-founded the post-punk band Minimal Compact, which released six albums.

Back in Israel he formed the duo Fortisakharof with Rami Fortis, whose album 1900? came out in 1990, and released his first solo album, Hakol O Klum, in 1991. Simanim Shel Chulsha (1993), made with Rea Mochiach, later ranked as the highest Israeli album in a ynet readers' poll of the best albums ever, and in the 1990s the media began calling him the prince of Israeli rock.

Negiot (1998) went gold within weeks and led to a tour of about 80 shows. He won an Ophir Award for the score of the film Saint Clara, set the poems of Solomon ibn Gabirol to music with Rea Mochiach in 2009, recorded an album of Ladino songs with Ehud Banai in 2017 and an album with Dudu Tassa in 2020, and his newest album is Sulam HaAhava.
