Netta went from her first audition for HaKokhav HaBa to winning Eurovision in eight months
Netta Barzilai was born in 1993 and grew up in Hod HaSharon, after six early years in Nigeria. At 18 she fronted the rock band Coalition, which won a young talent contest in her home town, then served in the Israeli Navy Band and studied electronic music at the Rimon school.
She auditioned for HaKokhav HaBa in September 2017 with Rihanna's Rude Boy and won the season in February 2018. Her entry, Toy, written by Doron Medalie and Stav Beger, won the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon that May with 529 points, Israel's fourth win, and by December its video had passed 100 million views, an Israeli record.
She followed with Bassa Sababa and Nana Banana, the EP Goody Bag (2020) and a seat on the judges' panel of X Factor Israel. In 2023 she sang in the interval of the Eurovision final in Liverpool, and her single Everything reached No. 1 on Media Forest's Hebrew chart; she has since released two Hebrew albums, HaKol Alai (2024) and Serenade (2026), and in July 2026 sang at the opening of the Maccabiah Games.
