David D'Or trained as a classical singer and made his name in pop with a four-octave voice

David D'Or was born in 1965 and sang in the Central Command army band. He trained as a classical singer at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and his debut album, David D'Or, produced by Yehudit Ravitz, came out with his version of Yad Anuga. His second album, Be'Govah Mishtane (1993), brought Shmor Al HaOlam and Ani Af, and that year he came fourth in the Israeli Eurovision selection with Parpar.

A countertenor with a range of more than four octaves, he moves between pop, classical and world music. At Zubin Mehta's invitation he sang Carmina Burana with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2003 he released a live album with the orchestra that went gold within two weeks. Baneshama (2001) gave him the hit Kol HaKochavim, he was named Israel's singer of the year in 2001, 2002 and 2004, and in 2004 he represented Israel at Eurovision in Istanbul with Leha'amin.

From 2008 he recorded the Shirat Rabim albums of prayers and piyyutim with Patrick Sabag, and the first of them went gold. He has appeared at WOMAD festivals abroad, and in 2021 he released Slichot Yerushalayim, a live album with Idan Amedi, Amir Dadon and Lior Elmaliah as guests. He also paints, and since 2023 he has performed a joint show with Avri Gilad.
