Hadag Nahash began with a chance meeting in Jerusalem in 1996

Hadag Nahash formed in Jerusalem in 1996, after a chance meeting between Sha'anan Streett and Dudush Klemes, who worked in a Jerusalem record shop and became the band's keyboard player. Their first show was that March, in a bar Streett owned. The name is a spoonerism of nahag hadash, Hebrew for "new driver".

Their second album, Lazuz (2003), went gold. Shirat HaSticker (2004), whose words the novelist David Grossman put together from bumper-sticker slogans, was the most-played song in Israeli media that year, and Hine Ani Ba (2006) was later heard several times in the Adam Sandler film You Don't Mess with the Zohan.

Four of the six members have played together since 1996. The band has released ten studio albums, the latest Yabia Omer (2025), whose songs set texts from the Book of Psalms, and was named band of the year on the Galgalatz and Reshet Gimel year-end charts in 2004, and again after the album 6.
