HaYehudim started as a cover duo in pubs and became one of the leading Israeli rock bands of the 1990s

HaYehudim began when Tom Petrover and Orit Shahaf, who share vocals and guitar, played covers of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Led Zeppelin as a duo in pubs and small clubs. In 1992 the duo became a band, named HaYehudim (The Jews) at the suggestion of Eldad Ziv and the producer Roy Zu-Arets.

Their debut album, Metziut Nifredet, came out in August 1995 and sold slowly until Michael Behagen's film Forever Young, broadcast in December 1996 with seven of their songs, brought them a wide audience. The album went gold in 1998 and later double platinum, and the second album, HaYehudim (1998), went gold too.

In 1999 Galei Tzahal named them band of the year, and they opened for Metallica in Israel that year and for Rage Against the Machine in 2000. Pachad Mavet followed in 2002, two live albums in 2003 and 2004, Forte in 2007, which went gold and was named album of the year at Music 24's awards, and Yoter Lo in 2015.
