Shuli Rand was a star of the Israeli stage long before his first album went platinum
Shuli Rand was born in Bnei Brak in 1962 and studied acting at the Nissan Nativ studio from 1984 to 1987. A year after graduating he played Hanan in The Dybbuk at Habima, directed by Andrzej Wajda, and went on to play Hamlet in Rina Yerushalmi's Hebrew version and a long run of roles at the Cameri Theatre.
On screen he won Ophir Awards for Life According to Agfa (1992) and for Ushpizin (2004), which he wrote with director Gidi Dar and in which he played the lead, Moshe Belanga. With Dar he also wrote and directed the animated film Legend of Destruction (2021), voicing its main character.
His first album, Nekuda Tova (2008), produced by Shmulik Daniel and with Ehud Banai as a guest, went gold and then platinum with 62,000 copies sold. A live album from his 2009 show in Caesarea followed, then Ratzo VaShov (2018), Shuli Shar Benayoun with Amir Benayoun (2022) and the mini-album Eiru'a Mitgalgel (2025), and in June 2026 his New York debut was set for the Town Hall in Manhattan.
