Maternity pay calculator for Israel
Type your pay for the last 6 months to see the maternity pay the National Insurance Institute pays in 2026: a day, a week and for the whole leave.
Or type the gross pay of each of the last 6 full months before you stopped work. Month 1 is the latest.
Type 0 for a month with no pay. The pay of months 1 to 3 is averaged on its own, and so is the pay of all 6; the higher one counts.
How long is your paid leave?

This calculator is for an employee. A self-employed worker is paid by a different rule, explained below.

These common cases show the maternity pay for a day and for the whole leave.
| Pay a month | A day | 15 weeks | 8 weeks |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₪6,000 | ₪200 | ₪21,000 | ₪11,200 |
| ₪8,000 | ₪266.67 | ₪28,000 | ₪14,934 |
| ₪12,000 | ₪400 | ₪42,000 | ₪22,400 |
| ₪20,000 | ₪666.67 | ₪70,000 | ₪37,334 |
| ₪30,000 | ₪1,000 | ₪105,000 | ₪56,000 |
| ₪60,000 | ₪1,752.33 | ₪183,995 | ₪98,130 |
Each case is the same pay in all 6 months. A pay of ₪60,000 a month is above the most the Institute pays, ₪1,752.33 a day, so it gets the most a leave can pay: ₪183,994.65 for 15 weeks.
Maternity pay is your average pay for a day, from the last 3 months or the last 6, whichever is higher.
- Add up your gross pay for the last 3 full months before the day you stopped work, and divide it by 90. Do the same for the last 6 months, and divide by 180.
- The higher of the two is your maternity pay for a day, to the agora. It is never more than ₪1,752.33 a day, the most in 2026.
- You are paid for every day of the leave: 105 days for 15 weeks, or 56 days for 8 weeks. Multiply the pay for a day by the days to get the total.
For example, pay of ₪14,000 a month in the last 3 months and ₪9,000 a month in the 3 before. The last 3 months give ₪42,000 over 90, which is ₪466.67 a day. All 6 months give ₪69,000 over 180, which is ₪383.33 a day. The higher one is ₪466.67 a day, and for 105 days that is ₪49,000.35.
42,000 / 90 = 466.67, 69,000 / 180 = 383.33, 466.67 x 105 = 49,000.35Pay counts as the gross pay your National Insurance was paid on, and a month with no pay counts as 0. The rule is the Institute's, on its page about the amount of maternity pay.
How long you are paid depends on how many months you worked and paid National Insurance.
| Paid leave | Months of contributions before the day you stopped work |
|---|---|
| 15 weeks105 days | 10 of the last 14 months, or 15 of the last 22 months |
| 8 weeks56 days | 6 of the last 14 months |
The months need not be in a row. Work in part of a month counts as a whole month, and months of army, national service or reserve duty can count too. See the Institute's page on the conditions.
| The birth | 15 weeks | 8 weeks |
|---|---|---|
| One baby | 15 weeks105 days | 8 weeks56 days |
| Twins | 18 weeks126 days | 10 weeks70 days |
| Triplets | 21 weeks147 days | 12 weeks84 days |
Each baby after the first adds 3 weeks to the full leave and 2 weeks to the shorter one, and the pay for those weeks comes without a new claim. So twins on pay of ₪12,000 a month get ₪50,400 for 18 weeks on the full leave. The first day of pay is the day you stopped work, but no earlier than 53 days before the birth, or 28 days on the shorter leave (the Institute's page on the period of pay).
You can get maternity pay if you meet these conditions.
- You gave birth from week 22 of the pregnancy. A stillbirth from that week counts too.
- You stopped working during the pregnancy and you do not work during the leave.
- You worked, and National Insurance was paid, for enough of the months before you stopped (the table above).
- You worked as an employee or as a self-employed worker. This calculator is for employees.
The calculator leaves out these cases.
- A self-employed worker is paid by a different rule, first on the advances she paid in the 3 months before she stopped work and then on her tax assessment.
- A stay in hospital of 15 days or more, by the mother or the baby, adds weeks by the days of the stay.
- A baby the Institute recognises as having a complex disability adds 5 weeks, from 1 April 2026.
- Months in professional training or rehabilitation are counted at an amount the Institute sets.
The father can share the leave.
- He can be at home with the mother for up to 7 days while she is on leave, and for up to 3 weeks in a row with twins or 5 with triplets. Those days come out of her leave.
- He can take over from her once 6 weeks have passed since the birth, for at least 7 days in a row, and the two of them cannot swap again.
- The days he takes come out of her days, so together they get no more than her leave. His pay is worked out the same way, from his own pay.
The rules are on the Institute's page about maternity pay for the father.
The Institute deducts tax and insurance, and pays the whole amount at once.
Income tax, National Insurance and health insurance are deducted from maternity pay. If you have a tax exemption or discount certificate, send it to the Institute with the claim. You can ask your employer to send Form 100, and then the Institute pays you without a claim. A claim filed more than 12 months after the day you stopped work can lose you the pay (how to claim).

People ask these questions about maternity pay in Israel.
How much maternity pay will I get in Israel?+
It depends on your pay. For example, pay of ₪12,000 a month is ₪400 a day, which is ₪42,000 for 15 weeks (105 days). The most it can be is ₪1,752.33 a day, which is ₪183,994.65 for 15 weeks.
How is maternity pay worked out?+
The National Insurance Institute takes the higher of two amounts: your gross pay for the 3 full months before you stopped work divided by 90, and your gross pay for the 6 full months before that day divided by 180. The result is the pay for a day, and it is paid for every day of the leave.
How many weeks of maternity pay do I get?+
15 weeks (105 days) if you worked and paid National Insurance for 10 of the last 14 months before you stopped work, or 15 of the last 22. 8 weeks (56 days) if it was 6 of the last 14. Each baby after the first adds 3 weeks, or 2 weeks on the shorter leave.
What is the most maternity pay a day in 2026?+
₪1,752.33 a day, from 1 January 2026. For 15 weeks that is ₪183,994.65, and a pay of about ₪52,570 a month or more gets it.
Is maternity pay taxed?+
Yes. Income tax, National Insurance and health insurance are deducted from it. If you have a tax exemption or discount certificate, send it to the Institute with your claim, or ask the tax office for a refund.
Can the father get maternity pay?+
Yes. He can be at home with the mother for up to 7 days, or take over from her after 6 weeks have passed since the birth, for at least 7 days in a row. His days come out of hers, so together they get no more than her leave.
