Most goods and services bought and used in Eilat carry no VAT under the Eilat Free Trade Zone law, so there is nothing to add or remove there.
You can work out VAT by hand with three short rules.
- To add VAT, multiply the price by 1.18.
- To remove VAT, divide the price by 1.18.
- To find the VAT inside a price that includes it, multiply the price by 18/118, which is about 15.25% of the price.
For example, ₪1,180 including VAT is ₪1,000 before VAT plus ₪180 of VAT.
Israel's VAT rate has changed 17 times since it began at 8% in 1976.

A business that sells up to ₪122,833 a year in 2026 can register as an exempt dealer.
The sales of an exempt dealer (osek patur) carry no VAT, apart from land and some equipment. The ceiling is raised every 1 January in line with consumer prices, as the Knesset Research and Information Center explains, so check it again each year.

The rates from 1976 to 2009 are from the Tax Authority's 2008 state revenues report, and the later ones from the VAT rate order and its amendments. The exempt dealer's ceiling and the tourist refund are in the Value Added Tax Law, and the Eilat exemption is in the Eilat Free Trade Zone law.
