Chef Yaron Ben Hamo's kosher sushi and Asian fusion restaurant in Ashdod's City area, which grew out of the sushi he delivered around the city during Covid
Toro Sushi is the first restaurant of his own for chef Yaron Ben Hamo, who grew up in Ashdod. By Walla's account he opened a confectionery at 16, cooked at Idi in Ashdod and at the West hotel and set up an Aroma branch in Mombasa, Kenya, without ever studying cooking; in September 2020, at 37, with the events trade stopped by Covid, he started Toro as a kosher sushi boutique for deliveries and private events. About two years later it became a restaurant at 5 Zahal Street, in a commercial passage of the Damari building behind the Unitrade building, in the City area, and in 2024 a second branch opened at 5 Yitzhak Rabin Street in Or Yehuda. Its site describes a modern fusion kitchen from the Far East built on fresh fish: sushi rolls and nigiri, sashimi, tartares and ceviche, dim sum made by hand, dumplings and noodles, and from the grill an entrecôte steak, lamb yakitori and a crisp sea bass, with a cocktail bar beside them. Mazav HaRuach found an artificial cherry tree at the centre of the room, a long bar where the whole menu is served and an open kitchen, and wrote that Ben Hamo mixes the cocktails himself; mako noted the Japanese decorations, the gold cutlery and the lit bar. Guests sit at the bar, at high tables or at ordinary ones, and in December 2024, Ashdod Net reported, a lounge for groups of six and more opened. Set lunches are served from 11:30 to 17:00. It is closed on Friday and opens on Saturday night after Shabbat ends; its booking page says that from 19:00 it is for guests over 18 and that tables are booked for two hours. Takeaway and delivery are ordered through its own ordering page. In April 2025 mako wrote that if you ask anyone in Ashdod where to eat sushi in the city, you get one answer: Toro.

A first course of choice, such as kimchi and pickles, tempura jalapeño, a vegetable egg roll or a salad, then one of three set meals: at 79 shekels a sushi roll, dim sum, a poke bowl or stir-fried greens; at 99 noodles, a crisp sea bass, an asado bun or entrecôte yakitori; at 199 a veal entrecôte steak of 300 grams. A soft drink or juice is included, and tuna tataki, ceviche or agemono salmon as the first course cost 16 to 26 shekels more.

Sources disagree on these hours
Its own site says it is open every day of the week except Friday and serves set lunches from 11:30 to 17:00, and gives no other times. The weekday times here are its Google listing's, as Wanderlog copies it: 11:30 to 23:00 from Sunday to Wednesday and 11:30 to midnight on Thursday; the copy of the listing in its Tabit booking record, dated 22 September 2026, gives the same. On Saturday night it opens after Shabbat and closes at midnight: Ashdod Net wrote in December 2024 that it opens an hour after Shabbat ends, which is the rule used here; its Google listing gives a fixed 18:30, Israel Hayom printed 21:00 in April 2025, and its booking page takes Saturday-night tables from 20:00 to 23:00. mako, in April 2025, and Mazav HaRuach, in 2023, gave 11:30 to 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday, and Ashdod Net 12:00 to midnight. Its ordering page takes takeaway and delivery orders from 11:00 to 22:50, and until 23:45 on Thursday.
