Alona Winery is a regional boutique winery in Moshav Givat Nili that uses only the grapes of its own vineyards in the Alona Valley. It was founded in 2001 by Ilana Rabau-Friedman and Micha Rabau, a couple of doctors, and by Fanny and Eli Azulay, second-generation growers of wine grapes, and its site says all the work of making the wine is done by members of the two families. The final make-up of each wine is decided after about half a year in barrel, when the winery's people taste every barrel before settling the single-variety wines and the blends. Its list runs from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz and a Grenache rosé to a barrel-fermented Chardonnay and blends such as Carignan Shiraz and Tanninim, at 75 to 130 shekels a bottle. Visits are by appointment: its booking page offers a tasting of red wines or of white and rosé wines on Fridays and Saturdays, and tastings and events can be arranged with Eli Azulay.
