4 Lunz Street, Talpiot Market, Haifa

A small Thai street-food restaurant on Lunz Street in Haifa's Talpiot Market, cooked by a Thai-born chef and her son, with plastic chairs, no phone and no bookings

The Thai Market (in Hebrew HaThailandit BaShuk, "the Thai in the market") is Shai Arel's Thai restaurant on Lunz Street in Haifa's Talpiot Market. Arel, a veteran restaurateur of Haifa and the Krayot who won Survivor Philippines in 2010 and sold his restaurants in 2015, opened it around the turn of 2023: mako wrote on 19 January 2023 that it had been open barely a month, and that he had chosen a less developed street on purpose, to recreate the simple market restaurants of Thailand. The kitchen is led by Wisitini Sangsuwan, known as Ni, a chef born in Chumphon province in southern Thailand who cooked for Thailand's embassy in Israel, and her son Guy Blau, a graduate of the Danon cooking school (Globes, February 2023). The room is made to feel like a Bangkok market eatery: Formica tables bought at the flea market, plastic chairs, cutlery in a box and loud eighties music, with a few tables outside. By its own account on social media, as a Haifa blog quoted it, there are no bookings, no phone, no delivery and no takeaway. The short menu runs from som tam, larb gai and pad thai to tom yam, kuay teow and a green curry made with a paste the chef's mother sends from Thailand, a whole fried sea bass and banana roti, and many soups and curries come in a small size. Fish comes from the fishmonger across the street and meat from a nearby butcher, while spices, pastes and dried fish are brought from Thailand. It is busy: Globes reported queues of 30 to 40 minutes on Thursdays and Fridays, ynet found it full within minutes of noon in February 2025, and mako reported in January 2026 that it feeds 800 people a day, with eleven Thai cooks in its kitchen. Time Out's 2025 list of Haifa's restaurants called it restaurant-level street food at very fair prices. Arel has since opened the Thai's Bar at 9 Lunz Street in 2024 and, at the start of 2026, HaItalkiya BaShuk, an Italian restaurant directly opposite at No. 3, where Guy Blau also leads the kitchen. It is not kosher, and it is closed on Saturday.

Sources disagree on these hours

These are the hours on its Google listing, as Restaurant Guru copies it (updated on 13 September 2026): Sunday 12:00 to 16:30 and 18:00 to 22:00, Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 16:45 and 18:00 to 22:00, and closed on Friday and Saturday. Every other source gives it Friday hours, 12:00 to 16:00: Israel Hayom in November 2024, ynet in February 2025 and a Talpiot Market guide by Eden Tours, as Globes did in 2023. Its own Instagram page could not be read, so Friday is not settled. Israel Hayom and Eden Tours give Monday to Thursday, without Sunday, and ynet gave Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 23:00.
