A museum of Bedouin culture among the trees of the Lahav forest in the Negev, with a traditional Bedouin hospitality tent

The Joe Alon Center sits among the trees of the Lahav forest in the Negev, and its Museum of Bedouin Culture was founded in 1980 to show the way of life and the culture of the Bedouin community whose roots are in the Negev and Sinai. Its permanent exhibition holds a rich collection of objects of the material culture of the Negev Bedouin and their old traditional way of life, shown alongside changing exhibitions, and audio guides in Hebrew and English go with the visit. Visitors can be hosted in Abraham's Tent, a traditional Bedouin hospitality tent that includes a women's tent (the mahram); on group visits a guide there shows how coffee and tea are made, and groups can book workshops baking pitas on a saj and in a taboon. The centre is run by the Rimon Institute, a municipal non-profit association owned by the Bnei Shimon Regional Council.
