A museum of pioneer settlement in the Jezreel Valley at Kibbutz Yifat, opened in 1972 around a kibbutz member's collection of farm tools, with a settlement yard, tractors and a honey pavilion

HaEmek Museum grew from the collection of Oded Artzi, its founder, a member of Kibbutz Yifat who began gathering old farm tools and objects in 1966; an exhibition of farm tools for 40 years of settlement in the western valley became the base of the museum, which opened to the public in 1972, and he ran it until his death in 1986. It collects, keeps and shows the material culture and the ideas of the Zionist pioneers of the early twentieth century and tells the story of settlement in the Jezreel Valley from the 1920s to the 1950s. In its settlement yard, pavilions recreate kibbutz life in those years, with the dining hall, the bachelors' hut, the children's house and classroom, the clothing store, the clinic and crafts such as the smithy and the shoemaker's, beside the draining of the swamps and the building of roads, thousands of objects the valley's pioneers used and even a pioneers' tent. Children can climb real tractors, guess what each farm tool was for and follow honey from the flower to the jar, and the yard needs no booking: visitors come and buy a ticket on the spot.
