Chava Alberstein first sang with her guitar in a Jaffa club in 1964 and has recorded more than seventy albums since
Chava Alberstein was born in 1946 in Szczecin, Poland, came to Israel in 1950 and grew up in Kiryat Bialik and Kiryat Haim. She first sang on stage in 1964, at the HaHamam club in Jaffa, accompanying herself on guitar, and in 1965, at 18, her first record came out, of songs by Nachum Heiman.
Her first Hebrew album (1967), later reissued as Perach HaLilach, carried Perach HaLilach and Mak'hela Aliza, and Kmo Tzemach Bar (1975) became one of the most successful albums of her career. From the 1980s she wrote more of her own songs, starting with Mehagrim (1986), and turned to rock on London (1989); alongside Hebrew songs she has recorded eight albums in Yiddish and many songs for children.
In 2007 she toured Israel for the first time since 2000, and the tour came out as a live double album in 2008. VeEich Etzlech (2013) went gold within three weeks. In recent years she has performed with Eran Weitz, Maya Belsitzman and Matan Efrat, who arranged September, from her 2025 mini-album Chamisha Shirim, with her, and the same year her autobiographical book Simtat Kna'an came out.
