Mashina began as two soldiers writing songs on an army base
Mashina started on an army base, where Yuval Banai and Shlomi Bracha wrote their first songs during their service. Their first album, released in 1985 with Rakevet Layla LeKahir (Night Train to Cairo), went platinum within a year.
The band split in 1995 after seven studio albums, reunited in 2003, and has toured and recorded ever since, including several tours of North America.
For their 40th anniversary in 2024 they toured the country again, back at venues like the Caesarea amphitheatre and the Sultan's Pool. In June 2026 they released a new single, Kim'at VeK'ilu.

Ahuvati (1988) came first when ynet readers and Radio Tel Aviv ranked the band's 25 best-loved songs in 2015. The instrumental Rikud HaMechona was Reshet Gimel's song of the year in 1989, the only instrumental ever to win that title.
