Rita went from the army troupe Tzahal 80 to Israel's best-selling debut album
Rita was born in Tehran in 1962, moved to Israel with her family at eight and grew up in Ramat HaSharon. She started singing professionally in 1980 in the army troupe Tzahal 80, and in 1982 she began studying acting at the Beit Zvi school.
Her first single, Bgida, spent eight weeks at the top of the Galei Tzahal chart, and Shvil HaBricha, her song at the 1986 pre-Eurovision, became Reshet Gimel's song of the year. Her debut album, Rita (1986), sold more than 150,000 copies, and in 1990 she represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest with Shara BaRechovot.
Ahava Gdola (1994) sold 160,000 copies, her 2006 show One drew about 100,000 people, and Remazim was Israel's best-selling album of 2008.
