A family-run hostel on HaEshel Street, open since 1984, with single-sex dorms, a guest kitchen and a garden, ten minutes' walk from Eilat's central bus station.

The Shelter is a small, family-run hostel on HaEshel Street that John and Judy Pex, former backpackers from Holland and the United States, opened in 1984. Its site says more than 90,000 guests from over 85 countries have stayed, many of them hikers, divers and travellers. The dorms are single-sex, private rooms are kept for families and couples, and sheets, blankets, pillows and towels are provided; some rooms have air conditioners and others desert coolers, and every room has free Wi-Fi. Guests cook in a shared kitchen, and a team of young volunteers from several countries helps run the place. The hostel says it lives by the values of the Old and New Testaments and welcomes guests of every religion and background: there is an hour of singing and Bible study each morning, and a gospel meeting with a free meal on Friday evenings.
