Nocturno is a family business that its owner, Amit, has run for more than 30 years, on the Bezalel pedestrian street in Nahlaot, five minutes' walk from Mahane Yehuda market. The building has three floors, each with a character of its own. On the entrance floor an open kitchen cooks kosher dairy, vegetarian and vegan food from produce brought from the market each morning, and its site says almost every dish on the menu has a vegan version: the owner is vegan himself. The lower floor, Nocturno Live, turns into a bar at night, with music, stand-up, literary evenings and talks; the upper floor, Nocturno Design, holds designers' studios and a shop of Israeli fashion, jewellery and homeware. Changing exhibitions of painters and photographers hang on every floor. The café is open Sunday to Thursday from 7:30 to 23:30, on Friday until 16:00 and on Saturday night from 20:00 to midnight.
