A heritage centre for Yemenite Jewry and Israel's communities in Shaarayim, Rehovot's first Yemenite neighbourhood

The Rehovot municipality opened the centre through the city's municipal company for culture, sport and leisure, in the Shaarayim neighbourhood, the first Yemenite neighbourhood in the Judean colonies, whose first settlers reached Rehovot in 1908. Its permanent displays use rare and authentic items and collections to tell of the journey of aliyah, settlement and Yemenite culture beside the wider Zionist story of immigrants from many lands and their part in shaping Israeli society. Its library holds about 10,000 books and studies on the Jews of Yemen and their heritage, and its archive thousands of original documents from Yemen and the Land of Israel; its site says the idea for the centre began in 2002.
