The visitor centre of Carmel Winery in its historic cellars in Zichron Yaakov, with cellar tours, tastings and a wine shop

Carmel Winery, by its own account the first commercial winery founded in the country and still working, with 140 years of winemaking and 108 families of growers, runs its Wine Culture Centre at the historic winery on Derech HaYekev in Zichron Yaakov. The centre tells the story from the start of the modern Israeli wine industry to today through tours, workshops and tastings led by its wine guides. A cellar tour with a short film and a tasting of three wines among the barrels costs 75 shekels a guest, a private tour with four Carmel Signature wines, sourdough bread and olive oil 100, a wine and cheese workshop 150, and a two-hour private tour with five wines 175, or 500 for a couple. Tours are booked ahead by WhatsApp, for adults over 18, and on Friday only private tours run, at 11:00. The wine shop is open from Sunday to Thursday 09:00 to 17:00 and on Friday 09:00 to 14:00, and the centre has a protected room.
