The Holocaust and resistance museum on Kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot in the Western Galilee, founded by Holocaust survivors, with the Yad LaYeled children's memorial museum beside it

The Ghetto Fighters' House, named after Yitzhak Katzenelson and devoted to the heritage of the Holocaust and the uprising, stands on Kibbutz Lohamei HaGeta'ot in the Western Galilee; its site says it is the world's first Holocaust museum and the only one founded by Holocaust survivors, who came to the Galilee to build both the kibbutz and the museum. It tells the story of the Holocaust with a focus on heroism, the triumph of the human spirit and the survivors' power to rebuild their lives in Israel, and its permanent exhibitions include Facing the Glass Booth, on the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem, Where Do We Go from Here?, on the questions survivors faced at liberation, a hall on the concentration and extermination camps and the new Among the Trees. Yad LaYeled, a wing opened in 1995 to commemorate the Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust, suits children from age 10, while the main museum is recommended from age 14. The archive, begun with the museum, holds documents, photographs and an art collection started in 1950 to commemorate Jewish artists who perished and to keep the drawings of those who survived, and an audio guide leads a two-hour self-guided visit of the main museum and Yad LaYeled.
