The Moshe Castel Museum of Art opened in Ma'ale Adumim in 2010, eighteen years after the death of the painter, who was born in Jerusalem's Bukharan Quarter in 1909 and, its site says, was one of the first artists born in the Land of Israel to begin a career there. Its collection covers every technique Castel worked in: oil on canvas and watercolours, sculptures and lithographs, carpets and bronze reliefs, and the works he made with basalt and oil paint; its site says the whole collection has left the storerooms for display, much of it shown in a museum for the first time. Its site says the museum is first of all a world centre for the study of Castel's artistic legacy, and it also hosts exhibitions of leading Israeli painters, mainly of his generation. A free tour for the public is held every day it opens, and tours and training days for tour guides, booked ahead, run on themes from his student years at Bezalel to Kabbalah and mysticism in his art.
