Netanya's city museum, telling the story of the city from its founding in 1929, in a building that was a weaving workshop for blind girls

Netanya's city museum, a centre for the city's history, is housed in a building put up as a weaving workshop for blind girls, which opened in 1958 and worked until 1991; in 2010 it was decided to renovate the place. Its permanent exhibition tells the story of Netanya from its founding in 1929 to the 1960s through historical photographs and original documents: a city that rose on the sands of the Sharon, whose founders set up a colony of orange groves but saw a resort town, a Riviera, from the start, which took in immigrants from every diaspora, received clandestine immigrants on its beaches and took part in the underground struggle for the state. The museum's archive, built from the memories of the city's residents and founders, with photographs, documents and objects, is open to the public for reading and research. Its guides run programmes on the city's founding, and tours around Netanya in several languages for adults and families, on foot or by vehicle, with singing or theatre, on themes such as leading women, green tours, the neighbourhoods, the seafront, the markets and the Diamond Trail.
