The Locomotive 70414 Compound stands on the site of Beer Sheva's Turkish railway station of 1915, in the city's Old City. Its original buildings, the station master's house and the track house, and original passenger carriages from the early twentieth century have been kept and turned into a mini museum and a lounge carriage, with displays on the Turkish, British and Israeli periods of the country and of Beer Sheva. At its centre stands a British steam locomotive from a series of about 850 built in the 1930s and early 1940s, restored to look like locomotive 70414, which ran in the south of the country in the 1950s; its page says only thirteen of this type are left in the world. The compound is run by the Beer Sheva municipality through Kivunim, offers guided tours, and hosts city events such as White Night and the wine festival.
