Kochav HaMizrach, the Star of the East, is a Middle Eastern restaurant at 100 Halutzei HaTa'asiya Street in the Haifa Bay industrial area. Its site tells the story of three generations since 1977: the grandfather, Butros, founded it out of love for food and people, Zuzu made it a known Haifa institution, and today the grandson, also Butros, carries it on. The hummus is made every morning to a family recipe, the meat is grilled over the fire, and the day starts with breakfasts of omelettes, shakshuka or eggs with salads and bread from the oven. Lunch brings grilled meat and home-style stews with mujaddara, mash or rice, and there are takeaway dishes for those in a hurry. Its guests, the site says, are workers, families, business people and tourists.
