Hagafen is a boutique guest house of eight suites at 68 HaMeyasdim Street, on Zichron Yaakov's pedestrian street, in a Templer-inspired stone building of 1888 kept up with traditional local techniques: stone walls, high ceilings and natural pigments. Its site tells the house's story: the pioneers Esther and Yaakov Cohen came from Romania, raised four sons and four daughters here and took part in the settlers' revolt against the Turks and in the Nili underground; their house served as an escape route, with tunnels running through the hill, and by 1888 it was already taking in travellers in the custom of hachnasat orchim. The suites carry names such as HaBaron, HaKerem, HaMukhtar, Nili and HaSultan, and check-in is self-service. Breakfast is a buffet from the coffee cart in the courtyard, and the brunch is also open to the public when booked ahead. The guest house also hosts brides getting ready for the wedding and small events.
