Chef Moshe Basson's restaurant facing the Old City walls, which cooks with the plants and herbs the Bible names.

The Eucalyptus is run by its chef and owner, Moshe Basson. Its site tells how, as a boy in 1960, he planted a eucalyptus tree in his parents' yard in Jerusalem on Tu BiShvat, and how the family's first restaurant later opened under its branches. The menu draws on the home cooking of the region over generations and on plants and herbs named in the Bible, with dishes from Basson's Iraqi roots, wines from the Judean Hills, local craft beers and house cocktails. It sits on the first floor of a Jerusalem-stone building from the end of the 19th century, looking out on Teddy Fountain, the Old City walls and the Tower of David, and the room is decorated like a Middle Eastern house, with antiques the chef collected, murals and embroidered rugs, lit by candles. Its site says the restaurant recently won first prize at the international couscous competition in Italy, and that Basson's son Roni has joined its management. It serves dinner from Sunday to Thursday, by reservation.
