The University of Haifa's museum of the archaeology of the Land of Israel, opened in 1984 on the initiative of Dr Reuben Hecht, with the ancient Ma'agan Michael ship among its displays.

The Hecht Museum at the University of Haifa opened in 1984 on the initiative of Dr Reuben Hecht, founder of the Dagon silos in Haifa and one of the founders of the university's board of governors, who collected archaeological finds from the Land of Israel for some sixty years. Part of his collection is shown in chronological order from the Chalcolithic period to the end of the Byzantine period, and part by theme: coins, seals, weights, jewellery, toys, oil lamps and the seven species, including a collection of Jewish coins and one of inscribed seals from the biblical period. A new wing opened in October 1998 with thematic displays built on the collection and on finds lent by the Israel Antiquities Authority. Its displays include the ancient ship from Ma'agan Michael and an exhibition on the Phoenicians, and the museum also has a wing on the heritage of German-speaking Jewry and a sculpture garden. Its site says the museum is being renewed and some wings are closed for now, while the Phoenicians exhibition, the Great Revolt display, the Ma'agan Michael ship and the sculpture garden stay open; entry to the museum is free, and the German-speaking Jewry wing is ticketed.
