A museum of Japanese art on HaNasi Avenue on the Carmel, founded in 1959 around the collection that Felix Tikotin gave to Israel.

The Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art was founded in 1959 on the joint initiative of Felix Tikotin, a collector of Japanese art who gave Israel the collection he had built over more than forty years, and Abba Hushi, then mayor of Haifa. Its site says it is the only museum of its kind in the Middle East, devoted entirely to collecting, conserving and showing Japanese art and culture, and that its collection of about 8,000 items spans traditional, modern and contemporary work: paintings and prints, antique illustrated books, folding screens, antique swords and other objects. The original display hall was designed in a Japanese spirit, with paper-covered sliding doors and a Zen garden; a new wing of 1,800 square metres with two galleries, a café and collection rooms opened in 1995, and an auditorium for lectures and films in 1997. Next door, Beit Kisch has two Japanese rooms where families take part in craft workshops inspired by the exhibitions and by Japanese culture, and through the year the museum holds lectures, tea ceremonies and festivals.
