A museum of socially engaged contemporary art in a 1932 house on the old line between East and West Jerusalem, with a roof that looks out over the city

Museum on the Seam is a socio-political museum of contemporary art, and its site says it stands on the physical and geographical seam between East and West Jerusalem, at the meeting point of the three religions. Its changing exhibitions use art to raise social questions for public discussion, among them the environment and sustainability, public conscience, the loneliness of the individual in the age of technology, gender violence and how people treat animals. The neoclassical building was put up in 1932 by the Baramki family; between 1948 and 1967 it served as an Israeli military post on the border, overlooking the Mandelbaum Gate, and in 1983 the Turjeman Post became a museum of Jerusalem as a divided city, before it opened as a museum of contemporary art in 1999. Five minutes' walk from Mea She'arim and the Old City, its roof looks out over Jerusalem and holds a café, an art library and a space for events.
