The museum of Italian Jewish life and art in the Italian Jewish House on Hillel Street, whose centrepiece is a synagogue brought whole from Conegliano Veneto

The Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art is home to the material and spiritual treasures of the Jews of Italy, the oldest Jewish community in the West, with Torah arks, ritual objects and Judaica, documents, books and manuscripts, clothing, art and everyday objects from the 15th century to today. It is in the Italian Jewish House on Hillel Street, a building put up in 1886 and 1887 by the German Catholic society in Jerusalem as part of the Schmidt compound, a hostel for German pilgrims, which later housed the Ma'ale school for nearly 50 years. Its centrepiece is the synagogue of Conegliano Veneto, brought from Italy in one piece in 1951, its ark carved in gilded wood, where the Italian community still prays on Fridays, Shabbat and holidays in the Roman rite. It is a recognised museum under the Museums Law of 1983 and shows changing exhibitions beside its collection.
