Alma began, by its own account, in 2008, when a Jerusalem family opened a meat restaurant in an old stone building in Nahalat Shiva; its soups became so well known that the family opened a small soup bar beside it, and more branches followed. The branches serve soups made fresh every day: kubbeh soups with beetroot, hamusta, okra or hamo and a vegan kubbeh, and pea, sweet potato, vegetable, lentil and bean soups. Its Tel Aviv branch is at 8 Herzl Street, at the corner of Rothschild Boulevard. It opens from 10:00 to midnight on Sunday to Thursday, closes on Friday two hours before Shabbat, and opens again on Saturday night until midnight. It is one of the chain's seven branches: five in Jerusalem, one in Tel Aviv and one in Haifa.
