In Israel and abroad
In 2027 the Diaspora reads Beha'alotcha a week after Israel. The second day of Shavuot is on Shabbat, 12 June 2027: that day the Diaspora reads the festival's own portion, while Israel, where the festival has already ended, goes on to the next portion. The two read the same portion again from 17 July 2027, when the Diaspora reads Chukat and Balak together.
What happens in Beha'alotcha
Aaron lights the menorah, the Levites are dedicated to their work, and those who could not bring the Passover offering in time are given a second Passover a month later. The cloud over the Tabernacle tells the camp when to travel, and silver trumpets call them. The people complain of the manna and crave meat, seventy elders are given a share of Moses's spirit, and Miriam is struck with tzara'at after speaking against Moses.
“Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him: When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the candlestick.”
