What happens in Terumah

God asks the people for gifts of gold, silver, copper, cloth, wood, oil and spices to build a Tabernacle, a sanctuary so that He may dwell among them. The portion gives the plans: the ark of the covenant with its cherubim, the table for the showbread, the seven-branched menorah, the curtains and coverings of the tent, its wooden boards, the veil before the holy of holies, the bronze altar and the courtyard around it.

“Speak unto the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering; of every man whose heart maketh him willing ye shall take My offering.”

Exodus 25:2, the verse after the portion's opening line, in the 1917 Jewish Publication Society translation.
