In Israel and abroad
In 2027 the Diaspora reads Nasso a week after Israel. The second day of Shavuot is on Shabbat, 12 June 2027: that day the Diaspora reads the festival's own portion, while Israel, where the festival has already ended, goes on to the next portion. The two read the same portion again from 17 July 2027, when the Diaspora reads Chukat and Balak together.
What happens in Nasso
The count of the Levites goes on with the families of Gershon and Merari and their part in carrying the Tabernacle. The portion gives the laws of sending the impure out of the camp, of confessing and repaying a wrong, of the sotah and of the nazirite. Here is the priestly blessing. It closes with the offerings the twelve tribal leaders bring, one each day, when the altar is dedicated.
נָשֹׂא אֶת־רֹאשׁ בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן גַּם־הֵם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם
“Take the sum of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers’ houses, by their families;”
