What happens in Tetzaveh

The people are to bring pure olive oil for a light that burns always. Aaron and his sons are chosen as priests, and the portion describes their garments: the breastplate with twelve stones for the tribes, the ephod, the robe with bells and pomegranates, the gold plate on the forehead and the tunics. It sets out the seven days that consecrate the priests, the daily offering and the golden incense altar. Moses's name does not appear in it.

“And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually.”

Exodus 27:20, the opening verse, in the 1917 Jewish Publication Society translation.
